CCIE Voice Becoming an Expert on VoIP
Jul 23rd
Are you an expert in providing VoIP solutions in a certain enterprise? If yes, then you can consider on getting a certification for Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) in Voice. If you happen to know the process of installing, configuring and maintaining Voice solutions over an IP network and you are in a way good at it, CCIE Voice track is just right for you. There are no formal prerequisites such as professional or associate certifications or training courses for this CCIE certification. All you have to do is first pass a written exam and then a lab exam, after which you can already consider yourself as a CCIE certified professional.
The CCIE Voice written exam is made up of 100 multiple choice questions that should be completed in two hours. The exam covers applications and technologies that comprise a Cisco Enterprise VoIP solution. It usually costs around US $300 and may vary depending on your location. Exam results are available immediately after you have completed the exam. Once you have successfully passed the written exam, bear in mind that you should be taking the lab exam within 18 months. Or else, you have to start from scratch as written exam scores expire after 18 months. More >

CCIE Voice Deep Dive Class-on-Demand
Jul 21st
Well that is certainly what we have attempted to do with the CCIE Voice Deep Dive self-paced Class on Demand series – that is to bring the human instructional voice element to infuse deeper meaning to what is already fantastic Cisco Documentation. Anyone that has set out and determined to undertake the task of studying for and ultimately passing any CCIE Lab exam, knows that at some point during your studies, the words on paper (Cisco Docs, RFCs, books) – while a absolute phenomenal source of information – can at times seem to loose their impact. Perhaps you have been studying too long, read one too many docs, have the time pressure of your family and friends waiting for you to return to be a part of their life, or perhaps you are just starting out on your adventure and don’t know where to begin. Whatever stage you are at or whatever the case may be, it is certainly helpful to have a tutor and mentor there beside you at times, assisting you in understanding what each complex technology’s documentation is trying to teach you, in possibly a deeper and more insightful way than you can manage on your own.
Wait no longer for such help to arrive! INE is happy to announce that each Live-Online Deep Dive course that we have taught has been recorded, and you have the ability to access these extensive repositories of knowledge at any time. More >

CCIE Voice Products Updates!
May 31st
Hi everyone!
We are excited to announce our newest release of IEWB-VO VOL1 labs covering the new CCIE Voice blueprint, which becomes effective as of July this year. The first of the CCIE Voice v3.0 labs are now out in beta format, in addition to new Voice Racks available to rent covering the new topology! All current customers who have purchased IEWB-VO VOL1 will automatically receive the new updates in their members account at no additional cost. Each section of the new VOL1 includes technology-focused labs with explanations, verifications, further reading links, and dedicated troubleshooting sections.
The initial release covers Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CUCME, formally known as Call Manager Express or CME). We will continue releasing new voice content covering all new blueprint topics, with a new section being released each week. The next release will include more CUCME labs, as well as Unity Express tasks, followed by the first of the new Unified Communications Manager Labs! The initial VOL1 release covers the following topics:
CUCME Basic Configuration
Phone Registration & Number Assignment (SCCP Phones)
SIP Phones
ISDN PRI
IOS Call Routing
Voice Translation Rules
Shared Line
Night Service
After-Hours Setup
Single Number Reach
Softkey Customization – SCCP
Softkey Customization – SIP
Octo-Line
Conference Resources
Transcoding Resources
B-ACD
Voice Hunt Groups
Ephone Hunt groups
Dynamic Hunt groups
The new voice racks are fully compliant with the CCIE Voice hardware specification posted at Cisco’s website: CCIE Voice Hardware Specification. To many folks out there, the new hardware lists is a huge relief, as the many old and expensive devices including the 6500 switch and the VG248 are now gone. Plus, the addition of SIP phones allows for more flexible choice of softphone software, not limited to the small set of SCCP-compatible products available on the market.
As for the people preparing using the old blueprint, our rack rentals support the old CCIE Voice hardware specification as well. Nothing will change until the lasts days the old blueprint remains valid.
Thank you, and be sure to check back often for more updates!

CCIE Voice Reading: Deploying Cisco Unified Presence
May 18th
A few days ago I posted a list to the Cisco Press books on the CCIE Voice recommended reading list. There has been more conversation on the OSL regarding an updated list for the v3 Blueprint. Jason Granat, a list member, recommended the book “Deploying Cisco Unified Presence” by HouTong Luo.

I’ve ordered my copy and its on the way! Thanks Jason! Great Recommendation.

CCIE Voice “Must Have” Links
May 5th
I know some of you that read this blog are working towards the CCIE Voice, and so am I. Recently I have joined the OSL that is maintained by IPexpert. This list is specific to CCIE Voice preparation but there are also lists for Security, Routing & Switching, and even Wireless (but it needs a little more love).
Anyhow, on the voice list, Larry Hadrava- CCIE #12203, with IPexpert, has begun to compile a list of must have links for CCIE Voice candidates. The initial two are:
Bandwidth Calculations
and
If you haven’t joined the list yet I urge you to do so. You can follow this link to sign up for the voice list.
If Voice isn’t your thing you can sign up for one of the other lists:

CCIE Voice Written Prep-Part 1.
May 1st
As I begin the journey to CCIE Voice I have decided, as I did with CCIE Security, to use the CCBootcamp and Cisco Press Products. I purchased the CCBootcamp CCIE Voice Written Study Guide. The Study Guide was written by Avner Izhar and Brad Ellis, and Published by Network Learning, Inc. They are a Cisco Learning Partner. Being that I work for a Cisco Learning Partner, Ascolta, we actually dont cross paths to often. I know that my company has much respect for Network Learning and I do as well after using their products for CCIE Security preparation.
So far I am about 90 pages into the study guide.
Chapter 1 was about Network Infrastructure and was very basic in my opinion. Of course this topic doesn’t vary much between the different CCIE tracks.
Chapter 2 is about Quality of Service, which is a topic I have been teaching for some time now. So far it is good. There are some terms being used that I haven’t really heard too much, but thats not a big. deal.
I am looking forward to Chapter 3- General VOIP Theory.
Each chapter ends with a series of questions to test you skills. With the CCIE Security I found these questions to be invaluable so I am hoping they prove to be the same here. As I progress further into my CCIE Voice Studies I will keep posting about the products I use. I think if more people did that it would give potential candidates a better feel for what is out there perhaps assist in their decision. After all, the CCIE is quite a commitment, both financially as well as in regards to ones time.
I welcome any questions you may have. Also, if you find anything on this site useful please share it!

Good news, everyone!
Mar 11th
In addition to releasing the new core knowledge simulation product, we’ve posted an update to IEWB-VO VOL1 (voice technology-focused labs). The updated content features screenshots for *all* GUI-related solutions (CCM, Unity, IPCCX etc). Due to this, the size of the workbook has grown considerably. And because of that, all customers now have the option to either download the workbook material as one large file, or by parts.
Of course, there are news for non-Voice students too!
1) For CCIE Security: The first Security VOL1 update is scheduled to be released by the end of March. You should expect to see Security VOL1 labs delivered in the format similar to our RS VOL1 V5.0 products – with challenging scenarios and thorough breakdowns (hey… anyone went through the *whole* RS VOL1 v5.0 QoS section?!
). As for SC VOL2, it should follow VOL1 shortly, with updates starting around 2nd week of April.
2) For CCIE R&S (most people’s favorite) We plan to release a part of RS VOL2 v5.0 labs (first 10 full-scale labs) pretty soon, in about a week or so (as they’re mostly finished by now). We’re also working on getting the remaining technology labs for IEWB-RS VOL1 (Multicast and BGP sections) done as well, and those should be expected late March/early April.
Happy studying!
